Peace Counts Peace Counts
Successful Peace Makers Worldwide

Peace Counts aims to discover role models for peacemaking around the world and to bring them broad exposure by creating fascinating features and photo essays. We are looking to provide answers to the question: How does an individual actually “make peace”?
Such role models and model projects include charismatic peacemakers; initiatives for the nonviolent coexistence of people of differing appearances, origins, and cultures; peace agreements in areas affected by civil war; the integration of youth through sports; professional mediators; work with traumatized children; reconstruction in former war zones; help for refugees; and pacification of urban gang warfare.
The interdisciplinary project combines the scientific competence of renowned conflict researchers with the media skills of experienced journalists.
Its basic thesis could be summarized as “Peace is Possible!” Even as the mainstream of public opinion is overshadowed by the paradigm of war, the further development of a culture of peace is imperative.
Peace Counts also means: “Peace Pays!” We seek to show the close connection between stability and sustainable economic development – the so-called peace dividend. To reach as large an audience as possible, the project relies on multimedia. Content is distributed using magazines, radio, televisions, books, and school curricular material. The Peace Counts Forum is a regular evening event introducing public opinion leaders and decision makers from the realms of politics, diplomacy, business, and culture to a single “peacemaker.” The event series is organized in conjunction with the GTZ (German Society for Technical Cooperation) in Berlin. The project is supported by the non-profit Culture Counts Foundation, founded by Michael Gleich of Munich.
